What If I Don't Want To Have A "Merry" Christmas?

Or, rather. What if i do, but it isn't? It's more of a one day at a time Christmas.....
oh bother.

Victorian Reinvention Of Christmas

That's what i searched for. I found some interesting things. Such as: http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/articles/16080
(i especially like the paragraph about co-opting Santa Claus)

Anyway, it was in my search for the original lyrics to "Deck The Halls" that i came across the term about Victorians. As i have gathered, "Deck The Halls" was originally Welsh. The english lyrics are not a translation. They may be English, they may be American. It doesn't matter which, really. They are from the Victorian era. When carols about piety replaced songs about revelling. Christmas was once again celebrated, it had been banned by Cromwell. Banned for being secular. Interesting....

I am (still) looking forward to The Winter Solstice. Mostly because it begins my 11 days off work. Hmm, eleven days of vacation. That's almost like twelve days of Christmas. ;-)

Snow Snow Snow Snow

That about sums it up. We had a party. Only one couple came. Everyone else was snowed in. But.....the house is clean! :-)

Achoo!

If it weren't December I'd say I'm suffering from allergies. I have a runny nose and I'm sneezy. It may have something to do with cleaning the garage last night. Well, attempting to clean the garage. Bringing some things in the house, throwing some stuff away, being displeased that mice (or a mouse) have destroyed some things. Not valuable things mind you, but things that are now a mess and must be thrown away. Bummer.

After all that lifting and throwing and carrying and rearranging, the car still didn't fit in there! That was the ultimate goal of the cleaning: to get the car in the garage. Alas it was not to be. Not yet anyway. Just need to bring a few things in, throw a few things away and Bob's your uncle (as they say). It's kind of like playing that game Rush Hour, but with heavy lifting, lol, and a mess.

....back to waiting for The Winter Solstice.....

Okay, I've got one

There is a very large icicle hanging off the back of our house. It has grown slightly since i took a photo of it. Since it's in the backyard i don't think it's a danger to anyone. Squirrels maybe. A bunny? I dunno. I'm not to concerned about it falling ON anyone. I am a little concerned about it falling in general, and possibly damaging the soffit. I should knock it down, but part of me wants to see if it will reach the ground. That's be kinda neat....

Not much to say...

Hello Dear Reader,

Again i find myself without much to say. I avoided being in a collision Thursday night as i pulled into the driveway..... Meh, not interesting. ;-)

How abot a video of the cat?

To Blog Or Not To Blog

So, I've been at a loss before. Lately, however, i just haven't been blogging. There are things i could blog about, but i don't. I don't know why...

We bought a new TV. that was a bloggable experience. There's been snow to shovel, the sink hole is gone, Christmas shenanigans at work...

Maybe work is the culprit. More socializing going on, not as much need to blog about things? Not that there is socializing at the expense of work being done. It's just a "family" atmosphere, that's all. Once you've told your story to a co-worker, do you really need to write about it online?

Hmmm....

I've got one! No, not interesting enough. How about....no....also not worth mentioning.

Oh well.

Why don't we watch this
